Candidate: Michael Lawson

Dr. Michael Lawson is a Teaching Assistant Professor at Kansas State University. In his role, he prepares pre-service elementary teachers in the areas of mathematics education and STEM education, along with being the coordinator and instructor for the secondary mathematics track in the Master of Arts in Teaching program and instructor for doctoral methods and STEM content courses. He previously worked as a HS mathematics teacher and later a secondary instructional coach in Tennessee. Coming from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he received a B.S. in Mathematics, M.S. in Secondary Education, and Ph.D. in Math Education, Dr. Lawson’s research focuses on supporting pre- and in-service teachers’ ambitious and high-quality visions for math and STEM instruction, along with developing community-centered STEM routines that support such ambitious teaching and learning (e.g., Community Science Data Talks). Dr. Lawson has served as the Vice President for College for KATM and looks forward to the opportunity to continue making a broad impact on math education in Kansas as KATM’s President-elect.

Candidate for Vice President of Elementary School

Candidate: Jennifer Bosley

As a dedicated sixth-grade teacher with four years of experience, Jennifer believes that every child can succeed in math with the right support and structure. Her approach to teaching is grounded in the wisdom her mother shared with her: “Anyone can learn anything if the steps are small enough.”

She is running for Vice President of Elementary Education to bring that belief to life on a broader scale—by advocating for practical, high-quality instruction, professional collaboration, and a love of math that starts early and lasts a lifetime.

Her career started in Lawrence Public Schools and she spent 5 years at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, as an instructional support assistant, 6th grade math teacher, and 6th grade social studies/ELA teacher. She took some time away from the classroom to pursue her Masters degree (while working as a para in Shawnee Mission Public Schools) and returned to teaching at Atchison County Community Jr Sr High School in Effingham, KS. She is finishing her 3rd year at ACCJSHS, where she teaches 7th and 8th grade math. Margaret is a proud member of her local teachers association (ACTA) as well as KNEA and NEA. She is also a member of KATM and NCTM (attended the 2025 Spring Conference in KC!) and is passionate about improving student perceptions of and experiences with math, connecting with other educators, and working to improve her craft. Margaret lives in Valley Falls with her husband, two cats, and two dogs.
